Many fused glass items are generally flat such as coasters, tiles and ornaments. For a fused glass item to take on a shape it is usually fired again using a glass fusing mold. The glass is placed on a mold in a glass fusing kiln and fired to a temperature lower than its first firing.

A combination of temperature and gravity will cause the glass to "slump" into or over the mold. After a controlled cooling, the glass can then be removed from the glass kiln.
