Fused Glass Abstract
Slumped Plate

A fused glass abstract shapes plate, fused and slumped in a glass fusing mold.

The base is made from pieces of clear and opaque fusing glass.

The abstract shapes can either be cut, or selected from scraps.

Shape size, color and outline are a matter of personal choice.

The plate can be made from Bullseye or Spectrum products.

The layers and shapes are fused together and then slumped.

Fusing Supplies:

One piece of opaque and one piece of clear fusing glass.

Different colored abstract shapes

Cutter

Suitable fusing mold

Shelf primer or thinfire shelf paper

Kiln shelf

Fusing kiln

Fusing Procedure:

Step 1. Cut opaque layer to 7" x 4".

Clear layer should be cut to 6 7/8' x 3 7/8".

Step 2. Cut abstract shapes to desired size or use scraps. Use contrasting colors.

Step 3. Wash and dry all pieces thoroughly.

Step 4. Set clear layer on prepared shelf, place opaque layer on top.

Arrange shapes on top of opaque layer.

Place shelf into fusing kiln.

Step 5. Use the following schedule.

The annealing stage has been removed as the fused plate will be annealed during the slumping stage.

1. 300°F up to 1100°F hold 20 minutes

2. 75°F up to 1225°F hold 10 minutes

3. 1275°F up to 1500°F hold 15 minutes

4. 600° F down to 94° F

5. Turn kiln off and allow plate to cool to room temperature.

Step 6. Apply 5 to 6 six coats of kiln wash to mold, allow to dry between coats.

When mold is dry, put fused plate in mold and place in kiln.

Slumping:

1. 300°F up to 1100°F hold 20 minutes

2. 100°F up to 1250°F hold 30 minutes

3. 9999 (Full) down to 960°F hold 60 minutes

4. 150°F down to 750°F

5. Switch off, cool to room temperature

When plate has cooled completely, remove from kiln
